Dermatologists are often faced with uncertainty. Diagnosis or identification of treatment options in unique or difficult to treat cases can be a regular challenge in our patient population. Collegial discussion among the specialists who attend this forum can help. The regular forum provides an opportunity to exchange ideas and gather expert opinions on diagnoses, treatment options, technologies and best practices in the management of care for patients.
Our guest speakers are selected from experts in the field of dermatology, recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatopathology, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. Guest speakers lecture in their fields of expertise to the Brown Dermatology Program dermatologists, residents, and other healthcare providers - one lecture on patient and clinical topics, and one lecture on basic science issues and information. Each talk is followed by a question and answer session.
These dermatology conferences are not only an opportunity for physicians and other healthcare providers to discuss cases and formulate the best treatment approach for patients, they provide a community-wide function: keeping hospital and community-based dermatologists current on diseases, diagnostics and treatments. Cases presented are chosen based on complexity, uniqueness and difficulty. Case reviews and subsequent discussions not only improve care for the patient presented, but also lead to improved care for future patients.
